Pakistan, GGGI Discuss Climate Financing, Clean Hydrogen and AI-Based Energy Solutions for Net-Zero Transition

ISLAMABAD (April 27, 2026) - Country Representative of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Laura Jalosjoki called on Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik and discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation on climate finance, clean energy and sustainable development initiatives.

During the meeting, Ms Jalosjoki briefed the minister on GGGI’s support for Pakistan in strategic planning, particularly in building institutional and financial frameworks to access international climate financing. She highlighted the organisation’s global experience in aligning economic growth with climate resilience and sustainability goals.

The two sides reviewed the Pakistan Country Programme (2024–2028) and explored priority areas for collaboration. These include enhancing private-sector participation in climate finance, strengthening agriculture value chains, and improving energy efficiency through artificial intelligence-based Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems. Opportunities for investment, market development in agriculture, and innovation through startup ecosystems also came under discussion.

The meeting further focused on the Global Clean Hydrogen Programme, currently under consideration in Pakistan. The initiative aims to support the country’s transition towards net-zero emissions by developing hydrogen-related capacity and institutional readiness. The programme is already operational in nine countries and is projected to reduce around 2.3 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions globally.

Dr Malik appreciated GGGI’s continued engagement with Pakistan and stressed that climate policies must reflect local realities. He underscored the need for practical, context-specific solutions aligned with national development priorities.
