PRCS chairperson calls on PM’s climate aide Romina Khurshid Alam, agree to enhance country’s forest cover

Islamabad, February 11, 2025 – Chairperson of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Ms. Farzana Naek, met with Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change, Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam, to discuss opportunities for collaboration in climate change risk mitigation, environmental conservation, and youth engagement in resilience-building activities.

Both leaders emphasized the urgency of coordinated efforts to tackle the country’s climate challenges. Ms. Romina particularly highlighted the importance of tree plantation programs as a crucial strategy to combat the impacts of climate change. “Trees are not only our natural allies in the fight against climate change but are also vital to ensuring the long-term health and safety of our communities,” she remarked.

The meeting underscored the need for a holistic approach to safeguarding communities and fostering green initiatives. Both parties agreed on expanding their efforts in environmental sustainability, focusing on increasing Pakistan's forest cover and engaging the youth in green activities.

Ms. Naek expressed PRCS’s commitment to supporting government initiatives, particularly those promoting community-based climate action. Ms. Romina welcomed the partnership, expressing optimism about the collective efforts to promote sustainable environmental practices across the country.
