Pakistan Calls for Urgent Global Climate Action at UNEA-7 in Nairobi
ISLAMABAD (December 12, 2025): Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr Musadik Malik represented Pakistan at the Seventh Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) in Nairobi, Kenya, on Thursday. The high-level forum, held under the theme “Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet,” brought together delegates from 193 UN member states, as well as civil society groups, scientists, development partners and private-sector representatives. According to the ministry, the Assembly discussed global environmental policy priorities, strengthening international environmental law and identifying science-based solutions to support sustainable development. Delegates also underscored the need for enhanced financing and international cooperation to help vulnerable countries build resilience and adapt to mounting climate risks. In his address, Dr Malik stressed the urgency of collective climate action. “Climate action is no longer a choice, it is a necessity,” he said. “If we commit injustice against nature, nature will not care. It is we who will ultimately pay the price.” He pointed to the rising vulnerabilities of climate-impacted countries, including Pakistan, and called for stronger adaptation measures and equitable access to climate finance. Without decisive and unified global action, he warned, developing nations would continue to bear disproportionate human, economic and ecological losses. The minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working with the international community to promote effective environmental solutions and to strengthen multilateral cooperation in tackling climate challenges.
